St. John Fisher University Athletics Hall of Fame
John Schmitz was a standout player for the St. John Fisher College football team. Schmitz was the first player at Fisher to be named as a four-time National Collegiate Football Association First-Team All-American. As a senior, Schmitz was named as the NCFA Defensive Player of the Year. He also served as the team’s defensive captain in his final three seasons, while leading his team in tackles. Following his player career, Schmitz was a member of the Fisher coaching staff that helped lead the Cardinals to the 1981 national championship. John graduated from Fisher with a Bachelor of Science in Business Management.
