Bill Heppeler led the St. John Fisher College men’s basketball program to a 36-5 overall record in his final two seasons. After a mediocre sophomore season in which he averaged less than five points per game, Heppeler emerged as Fisher’s super-sub and set the Fisher single-season scoring record with 17.4 points per game as his team’s sixth-man. Heppeler paced the Cardinals to a school-best 19-2 record in the 1970-1971 season, while averaging 7.1 rebounds and shooting 57.8% from the floor and was twice named to the All-ECAC Team. As a senior, Heppeler again rewrote the Fisher single-season scoring mark and the single-season rebound record with 18.4 points and 9.5 rebounds, while leading the Cardinals to a 17-3 overall record. Heppeler also shot 88% from the foul line as a senior and finished his career with 841 points, the second-highest career total in Fisher history at the time his career ended. Bill graduated from Fisher with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics.
