St. John Fisher University Athletics

NCAA NATIONAL CHAMPIONS

St. John Fisher University has had seven individual NCAA Division III National Champions in its history in two different sports.

Scott Harris, Jr., who was inducted into the University's Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017, became the first to do so in 2008 after posting the lowest individual score at the NCAA Men's Golf Championship. That year, Harris, who was named an All-American twice, led the field wire-to-wire and guided Fisher to a third place finish in the team standings - its best finish in program history.

In 2018, Mark VanMarter became Fisher's second national champion after winning the long jump with a leap of 7.36 meters - .06 meters ahead of the runner-up. A three-time All-American, VanMarter's performance set a new program record in the long jump. The Cardinals nabbed their third national champion finish during the 2018 outdoor track and field season as Peter Girardi blew away the competition to win the 400 hurdles. After finishing as the national runner-up in each of the previous two seasons, Girardi closed out his senior year with a win. The Cicero native broke his own program record and ran the fifth-fastest time in Division III history at the time and qualified for the US National Meet with a mark of 50.50.

The track and field team continued to expand upon its championship pedigree in 2019 as Kyle Rollins cleared 2.12m in the high jump to claim a national championship as the Cardinals finished tied for seventh place in the team standings.  Rollins took home his second individual national championship two years later after winning the high jump with a leap of 2.11m.  The Groveland native continued to raise the bar in the high jump after winning his third national championship at the 2022 Indoor Championship after jumping 2.12m.  Rollins further cemented himself in Division III history after securing his third consecutive outdoor national championship in the high jump in May 2022 after clearing 2.16m.  The win marked the fourth individual national championship in his illustrious career.
