Matt Jones was a four-year member of the men’s basketball team and helped lead the 1998-99 Cardinals to a 24-2 record, while averaging over 10 points per game, six rebounds per game, and three blocks per game.
Standing 6-foot-6, Jones was a menacing force in the paint, especially on the defensive end. He set the College-record for blocked shots in a game with eight, and his 77 rejections during his senior year is the highest single-season total in the program’s nearly 50-year history.
Matt played in 90 career games, and had 137 blocks, placing him second all-time in Fisher school history. He also accumulated 519 career points, while shooting over 50% from the floor throughout his career
During his four years, Fisher compiled an 86-19 overall record, qualified for the NCAA Division III Tournament all four years, and earned the No. 1 seed in the East Region in 1999. That year, the Cardinals closed out the regular season with then a College record 16-game winning streak.
In the final game of his career, Jones led the Cardinals in scoring with 18 points, while adding five blocked shots and seven rebounds.
At the time of graduation, he finished his four-year career as part of the winningest class in the history of men’s basketball at the College.
