St. John Fisher College’s Madison Karwas (Frontier/Hamburg) of the volleyball team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 28, 2014.

The freshman tallied 50 kills and 39 digs over Fisher’s 2-2 week. Fisher is now 7-12 overall and 1-1 in conference play.

Karwas opened the week by tallying a team-high 10 kills with 12 digs in the Cardinals’ 3-1 victory over visiting Medaille College on Wednesday.

In the Cardinals’ 3-2 win over host Thoroughbreds on Friday at the Skidmore Invitational, Karwas recorded two career-highs with 17 kills and 14 digs. The outside hitter led the team again on Saturday, totaling another career-high 17 kills, good for a .361 attack percentage in Fisher’s 3-1 loss.

Karwas has proven key on both offense and defense, leading Fisher in kills with 109 and tallying 114 digs for third among the Cardinals.

Fisher hosts Nazareth College at 7 p.m. Wednesday for an Empire 8 matchup.
