St. John Fisher College’s Vicki Alfieri (Webster Schroeder/Webster) of the women’s soccer team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 2, 2012.
Alfieri and the Cardinals jumped out to a 2-0 season record this weekend, sweeping opponents at the Cyclone Kickoff Classic that was hosted by Centenary College. Alfieri recorded two goals on the weekend, both scored in a 7-0 rout of Albion College. The senior had three total shots, all of them on goal and two finding the back of the net.
Alfieri’s goals came back-to-back in the contest, as she scored her first one on a direct kick from just outside the 18-yard box. Her second came minutes later on a run down the right side of the field when she found herself alone and open to take fire.
Fisher outscored opponents 12-2 during the two games, as it also defeated Drew University 5-2 in the season opening game on Friday.
The Cardinals will have their first home game of the season on Wednesday when they welcome the College at Brockport Golden Eagles to Growney Stadium for a 7 p.m. contest.
