St. John Fisher College’s Melissa Vaughn (Orchard Park/Orchard Park) of the women’s track and field team has been named as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 11, 2015.

The sophomore placed third overall in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.33 seconds to break her own school record at the Southern Tier Collegiate Open hosted by Cornell University on Saturday. It marks the sixth-fastest time this year in NCAA Division III and was just .08 seconds off of tying the facility record for Cornell University’s Barton Hall.

Vaughn continues to break her own school record throughout the season. Entering the year, she ran to a 9.52-second finish at the Cornell Relays on Dec. 6. At the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Dec. 11, she recorded an ECAC-qualifying time of 9.35 seconds for first place.

Fisher continues its indoor season at the Rochester Institute of Technology Invitational on Saturday
