St. John Fisher College has named #Sydney Kandefer# of the volleyball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending September 7, 2008.
In a 2-3 week for the Cardinals, the sophomore middle blocker recorded 45 digs, 42 kills, 29 total blocks (four solo), five aces and one assist in 19 games played.
In Wednesday’s 3-1 win over visiting SUNY Morrisville, Kandefer recorded eight kills in 19 attempts (.316 attack percentage), five digs and a team-high five blocks to lift the Cardinals.
Kandefer followed Wednesday’s performance with a strong showing in the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Friday and Saturday. In a four-game loss to Union College, she recorded 11 digs, 10 kills, and five blocks, and came back on Saturday to lead the Cardinals to a four-game victory over Bible Baptist College with 11 kills, 10 digs, and a team-high four service aces.
For the season, Kandefer leads the team in kills (51), kills per game (2.22), blocks (35), and blocks per game (1.52), while ranking among the team leaders in aces (six), and digs per game (2.30).
Fisher (3-3) will return to action on Tuesday to take on host Buffalo State College.
