St. John Fisher College has named senior wide receiver #Tim Marion# of the football team as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 12, 2008.
Marion led the Cardinals with 102 yards receiving and two touchdowns on just five catches, and added a third TD on a 34-yard run on a fourth down play in the second quarter of a four-overtime 58-52 loss to visiting Salisbury University on Saturday. Both schools set several program records in the game, including longest game (four overtimes), most combined points scored (110) and most combined yards of total offense (1,101).
Both teams traded field goals to open the game before Marion gave the Cardinals a 14-point lead with a pair of touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback #Tim Bailey# found Marion running wide open down the right sideline on a double-reverse pass for a 55-yard connection to give Fisher a 10-3 advantage, and Marion broke through the Salisbury defense on fourth down for a 34-yard rushing TD (his second rushing touchdown of the year).
Marion’s third touchdown came on Fisher’s first play of the second overtime. Bailey received a shotgun snap and made a hard pump-fake toward Marion, who beat the Seagulls’ coverage for a 25-yard TD reception on a double-move up the left sideline.
For the season, Marion leads the Cardinals (3-3) with six receiving touchdowns and is tied for the team lead with two rushing touchdowns. He ranks second on the team with 25 grabs for 457 yards and has also accumulated 83 yards on 18 rushes (4.6 yards per carry).
Fisher will return to action at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday to take on Norwich University in a critical Empire 8 Conference game.
