St. John Fisher College has named #Elaina Braun# of the volleyball team as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 13, 2008.

In a 2-1 week for the Cardinals, the junior led the Cardinals with 117 assists, while ranking among the team leaders with 46 digs. Braun also recorded seven kills, four total blocks, and two aces, leading the Cardinals to wins over University of Rochester and Pitt-Bradford.

The Cardinals opened the week by posting a 3-1 win over University of Rochester on Wednesday. In the victory, Braun dished out an impressive 37 assists, and made 18 digs in a solid defensive effort.

On Saturday, the Cardinals went 1-1 in a tri-match with St. Lawrence University and Pitt-Bradford, but more importantly the Cardinals helped raise over $2,200 for the Komen For The Cure Foundation of Central New York. Fisher wore pink jerseys to raise awareness about breast cancer and finished the day with 235 digs as part of the Cardinals' "Dig For the Cure" project, where fans donate money based on how many digs the team finished with for the two matches.

In the opening 3-1 loss to St. Lawrence, Fisher recorded 129 digs, including 20 from Braun, who also contributed 39 of Fisher’s 47 assists, three kills and one block. The Cardinals closed out the week with 3-1 win over Pitt-Bradford in which Braun dished out a personal-best 41 assists.

On the season, Braun leads the Cardinals with an average 8.04 assists per game (651 assists), while totaling 243 digs, 46 blocks, 42 kills and 20 service aces.

Fisher (14-10) will return action on Saturday to take on host Russell Sage College.
