St. John Fisher College has named #Sydney Kandefer# as the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending October 26, 2008.
Kandefer led the Cardinals to a 3-1 finish in the Empire 8 Conference Crossover Tournament hosted by Ithaca College over the weekend. With the wins, Fisher raised its record to 19-11 overall, 6-2 in the Empire 8, and claimed the No. 3 seed in the upcoming Conference Championship to be hosted by top-seeded Stevens Institute of Technology. Kandefer totaled 49 digs, 41 kills, 14 total blocks, and seven service aces over the four-match span.
The sophomore middle blocker recorded 11 kills with a .409 attack percentage in the 3-0 win over Elmira on Saturday to open the action. She also recorded a team-best 16 digs with five blocks. Kandefer finished with nine digs, eight kills, and four aces against the Hartwick Hawks in another 3-0 win for Fisher.
On Sunday, Kandefer paced the Cardinals to a win over Alfred with 15 kills and 14 digs, and did her part with 10 digs, seven kills and five blocks in Fisher’s lone loss of the weekend, a 3-1 decision to Nazareth College.
For the season, Kandefer leads the team with 137 total blocks, and ranks second on the squad with 244 kills. She also ranks among the team leaders with 255 digs, 31 service aces, and 11 assists in 102 games played.
Fisher will take on D’Youville College at 7 p.m. on Thursday before competing in the Elmira College Tournament over the weekend.
