St. John Fisher College’s Eric Riley (Oneida/Wampsville), a sophomore on the men’s track and field team, has been named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 13, 2013.

Riley and the track and field team opened the new year on Saturday with a competition at Rochester Institute of Technology in the RIT Tiger Invitational. The sophomore won the long jump, leaping 6.69 meters, beating the second-best opponent by .03 meters. Riley’s 6.69-meter jump just missed qualifying for ECACs, which requires a 6.70 meter mark.

The two-sport student athlete, as Riley is also a member of the Fisher football team, also participated in the men’s 4x400 meter relay, with the Cardinals finishing in seventh place.

Riley and the track and field team will return to action on Saturday as they travel to Geneva, OH for the North Coast Indoor Track and Field Open.
