Will Cornett of the St. John Fisher College men’s basketball team has been selected as the College’s Male Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 23, 2011.
In a 2-0 week for Fisher (10-7 overall, 6-2 Empire 8), Cornett averaged 8.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 2.0 steals, while shooting 60.0% from the floor and committing just one turnover in 60 minutes of action.
The senior guard started the week off by tying his career-high of 12 points in Fisher’s 69-55 win over Nazareth College on Tuesday. Cornett also finished with nine rebounds, four steals and three blocked shots in the win.
In Saturday’s 60-44 victory over Rochester Institute of Technology, Cornett led a Fisher defense that forced the Tigers to shoot 24.1% from the floor. He finished the game with four points, four assists and four rebounds.
For the season, Cornett leads Fisher with 21 steals. He also is averaging 5.0 points and 4.1 rebounds, while ranking second on the team with 44 assists.
Fisher will return to action at 8 p.m. on Friday at Elmira College.
