St. John Fisher College’s Colleen Maloney (Liverpool/Liverpool) of the women’s basketball team has been named as the Empire 8 Conference Player of the Week and the College’s Female Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 6, 2011.
In a 3-0 week for the Cardinals (12-9), Maloney averaged 17.7 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.3 blocks, while shooting 47.1% (16-for-34) from the floor and 94.1% (16-of-17) from the foul line.
The senior guard started the week off with a 12-point, six-rebound performance in Fisher’s 57-49 win at Alfred University on Tuesday night.
On Friday, Maloney scored 21 points and added three steals in Fisher’s 85-72 overtime win against Hartwick College. Fisher trailed by 15 points with three minutes left, but rallied to force overtime with Maloney’s 3-pointer from the top of the key with 2.5 seconds remaining in regulation forcing the extra period.
Maloney scored a game-high 20 points on Saturday, shooting 7-for-8 from the floor and 3-for-4 from 3-point range, leading her team to a 56-49 win over visiting Stevens Institute of Technology.
For the season, Maloney ranks second in the Empire 8 in scoring (18.3 ppg) and blocked shots (38). Her 50 3-pointers on the year are the most by a single player in the league.
For her career, Maloney now ranks eighth at Fisher in career scoring with 1,252 points and second at Fisher in career 3-pointers with 159.
Fisher will return to action at 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Rochester Institute of Technology.
