HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's track and field team traveled to Houghton College for the Highlanders' early season classic at the Kerr-Pegula Athletic Complex.
Kyle Rollins earned two wins for the Cardinals while
Chase Corcoran also picked up a first-place finish to lead the Cardinals.
Rollins, an All-American in the High Jump last year, made a stellar season debut in the jumping events. The junior jumped 2.07 meters in the High Jump to claim first place. The jump ranks number one in all of Division III so far this season. The Groveland native who was this week's Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Week for his performance in the season opener at Nazareth, also won in the Triple Jump with a jump of 14.42 meters, which is the second best in the nation this year. Rollins also set a new facility record in both events.
Corcoran was the top thrower in the Weight Throw competition by chucking it 15.42 meters for his first win of his collegiate career while qualifying for the Atlantic Regional Championship The junior also set a personal record in the shot put with a throw of 13.27 meters. Fisher went 1-2 in the weight throw with
Ryan Desautels finishing behind Corcoran with a 14.70-meter throw. The South Glens Falls native also threw a new personal best with a regional qualifying performance of 14.80 meters in the shot put where he finished second as well. Also qualifying for regionals was freshman
Savion Joyles who jumped 1.89 meters in the High Jump while finishing in third place in the event.
Jonah Dean impressed in his first appearance in the 200-meter run with a time of 23.10 seconds to take second place in the event. Another second-place finisher for the Cardinals was
Grant Stokoe who ran the 800-meter run in 1:59.72.
A trio of track athletes garnered third place in their respective events.
Bernard Daoust ran the 5000 meter-run in 16:09.62,
Fred Owen ran the Mile in 4:46.04 and
Trenton Wynn made his debut in the 60-meter hurdles while posting a time of 8.82 seconds.
Multiple field athletes recorded personal records.
William Corwin and
Trey Caulkins threw 13.30 meters and 10.26 meters respectively in the shot put.
Joe Jerkovich registered his best throw in the weight throw of 12.29 meters.
The Cardinals' next meet comes after the holiday break on January 10th at the Spartan Invite located in Ocean Breeze on Staten Island.
