ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher College men's track and field team opened its 2019-2020 indoor season at Nazareth College Friday night for the first meet to ever take place at Nazareth's Golisano Training Center. Multiple Cardinals came away victorious while a few broke personal records to kick off the season.
Sophomore
Grant Stokoe won the Mile with a time of 4:37.39. The Cortland took over first place in the final 200 meters and never looked back for the win. Junior
Kyle Rollins came across the finish line first in the 60-meter hurdles in 8.5 seconds to qualify for the Atlantic Regional Championship. The Groveland native won the heated race by a mere two one-hundredths of a second.
Senior
Daniel Norris finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.13, qualifying him for the regionals. Freshman
Jonah Dean made a strong debut by placing second in the 300-meter race with a time of 36.74.
In the throwing competitions, juniors
Ryan Desautels,
Chase Corcoran and
William Corwin each set a personal record in the shot put. Desautels threw 13.98 meters to finish in second place that was a regional qualifying performance while Corcoran threw 13.11 to place fourth and Corwin threw 12.88 meters to claim fifth.
In the Weight Throw, Corcoran earned second place by throwing 15.27 meters that was long enough to qualify for regionals while Desautels finished right behind him at third with a throw of 14.64. Sophomores
Joe Jerkovich and
Jack Mott would set personal bests with throws of 12.15 and 11.21 respectively.
Fisher is back in competition in a week as it heads to Houghton for the Highlanders' Early Season Classic on Friday, December 13
th.
