PITTSFORD, N.Y. — St. John Fisher men's track and field student-athletes Brandon Kaplan and Hayden Penna have qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships, the NCAA announced on Sunday.
Kaplan will compete in the weight throw, while Penna will compete in the pole vault. The national meet runs March 13-14 at the Birmingham Crossplex in Birmingham, Alabama.
A first-time qualifier for indoor nationals, Kaplan recently shattered school and meet records in the weight throw with a mark of 19.16 meters to claim his second straight Empire 8 Conference Indoor championship. He has recorded five throws that have traveled more than 18 meters this season.
Penna, also a first-time qualifier for indoor nationals, has bested his own program record in the pole vault multiple times this season. He most recently did so in the Nazareth Conference Tune Up in February with a mark of 5.02 meters. Penna won his third straight E8 Indoor pole vault title on Feb. 27 and placed second in the All-Atlantic Region Indoor Track and Field Championships on Friday.
