PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's tennis team opens its 2025 season against SUNY Cortland on Friday at the Midtown Athletic Club.

About Head Coach Jason Byam 

Byam, inducted into the St. John Fisher Athletics Hall of Fame in 2017, became head coach of the Cardinals' men's and women's tennis programs in August 2025. 

Byam graduated from Fisher in 2006 and played under longtime tennis coach Linda Gohagan. He recorded the most wins (81) by a men's tennis player in school history and earned All-Empire 8 honors six times in singles and doubles during his collegiate career.

Byam previously served as the head tennis professional at the nearby Mendon Racquet Club, where he coached youth, high school and collegiate tennis players. He has continued playing competitively since graduating, winning three Rochester District championships in doubles.

Players To Watch

Lily Miller (Jr.) – A two-time second-team All-Empire 8 singles player, Miller has posted nine singles victories in each of the last two seasons. Last season, she went a team-best 9-5 overall (6-2 E8) in singles and contributed to five doubles victories. 

Lilly Renzi (Sr.) – Renzi, a two-time second-team All-Empire 8 singles selection, recorded six victories in singles during the 2024 season. She went 9-1 in singles in 2022 and 8-3 in 2023. Renzi has also been part of 14 doubles wins over the last three seasons, including five in each of the last two years. 

Schedule Note

All of the Cardinals' home matches this season, except for one, will be played at the Midtown Athletic Club in Rochester. Their Oct. 8 match against Nazareth will be played at the Golden Flyers' Annette Shapiro Tennis Courts.
