HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The No. 2-seeded St. John Fisher women's tennis team fell 4-2 to No. 6-seeded Alfred on Friday in the Empire 8 Conference Championship Semifinals at Houghton University's Pegula-Kerr Field House.
The Cardinals concluded their season with a 7-4 overall mark, while Alfred advanced to the conference title dual match. The Saxons, now 8-6 on the year, will face top-seeded SUNY Geneseo on Saturday with a trip to the NCAA Division III Tournament on the line.
Alfred claimed the doubles point with wins by Alyssa Seegert/Becca Epping (No. 1 doubles) and Elizabeth Madsen/Camryn Moore (No. 2 doubles).
The Saxons closed out the victory with singles wins by Seegert (No. 1 singles), Madsen (No. 3 singles) and Alexis Gits (No. 5 singles). Seegert's victory over St. John Fisher senior Lily Miller secured the match for Alfred.
St. John Fisher sophomore Adriana Colafranceschi improved her team-best record to 10-1 and pushed her winning streak to nine matches with a win in straight sets over Epping at second singles. Senior Anna Exford tallied the Cardinals' other singles point, outlasting Moore in three sets at sixth singles.
