Miller Makes Program History As Women's Tennis Tops Brockport 5-2 On Senior Night

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Lily Miller broke St. John Fisher's record for career singles victories on Senior Night as the Cardinals topped SUNY Brockport 5-2 on Friday at the Midtown Athletic Club.

Miller, with her win in straight sets over Cara Vasile at first singles, recorded her 31st collegiate singles win, passing Kaili Saffran (30 from 2017-20) for the most in Fisher history. The win marked Miller's fourth in a row and moved her record for the season to 5-3 (all at first singles).

The Cardinals improved to 6-2 overall (5-1 Empire 8 Conference) in dual action with the win, their fourth in a row, while the Golden Eagles dropped to 3-4 (2-3 Empire 8 Conference). Excluding the COVID-shortened 2020-21 season, this marks just the second time the Cardinals have started a season 6-2 or better in the last 20 years.

St. John Fisher earned the doubles point with wins at first and third doubles. Sophomore Adriana Colafranceschi and senior Isabella Busch teamed up to beat Cara Vasile 6-3 at No. 1 doubles, and sophomore Maura Matthews and freshman Mady Etter beat Kathleen Rogers and Gianna Masker 6-3 at No. 3 doubles.

Colafranceschi, Busch and sophomore Emma Mihajlovic accounted for the Cardinals' other three singles victories.

Colafranceschi won in straight sets at second singles over Leah Banes, and Busch outlasted Mackenzie King in three sets at third singles. With their wins, Colafranceschi and Busch improved their records to 7-1 and extended their winning streaks to six matches.

At fourth singles, Mihajlovic topped Samantha Basovsky in straight sets for her third singles victory of the season. Brockport picked up points at fifth and sixth singles, but Fisher had already secured enough victories to complete the 5-2 team win.

The Cardinals honored their seniors – Busch, Miller and Anna Exford – during a ceremony before the match.
