HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's tennis team concluded the fall regular season with a 6-1 victory over Houghton on Saturday evening at the Houghton College Tennis Courts.
Winners of five of their last six dual matches, the Cardinals improved to 7-3 overall and 6-2 in Empire 8 Conference play. Their seven wins mark their most since the 2017-18 campaign.
With the victory, the Cardinals secured the No. 2 seed for next week's Empire 8 Championship Tournament. The top two seeds (Fisher and SUNY Geneseo) will have first-round byes and open postseason play on Friday, Oct. 17.
The Cardinals claimed two out of three doubles matches to secure the doubles point against the Highlanders.
Senior Isabella Busch/sophomore Adriana Colafranceschi earned their fourth win and third in a row as a tandem at first doubles. Freshmen Mady Etter/Reece Williams recorded their first match as partners at third doubles.
The Cardinals won five of six singles matches to finish off the dual win. Houghton's lone victory came at first singles.
Colafranceschi improved her team-best record to 9-1 with her eighth consecutive victory at second singles, 6-4 and 6-1 over Victoria Martinez. At third singles, Buch beat Zoe Zachery in three sets to move to 8-2 overall.
Sophomore Emma Mihajlovic (fourth singles), senior Anna Exford (fifth singles) and junior Sara Martin (sixth singles) won their matches in straight sets.
