2025 Fisher Quick Facts

Head Coach: Lauren Scorza (4th season at St. John Fisher)

Record: 28-30 overall (.483), 20-5 (.800) in Empire 8 Conference regular-season play

2024 In Review: The Cardinals went 9-11 overall last season, falling to eventual Empire 8 champion Geneseo in the semifinals of the conference tournament after beating rival Nazareth in the quarterfinals. They had four players earn All-E8 honors – Emma Cooper (first team), Audrey Grieb (first team), Alison Taplin (second team) and Molly Fisher (third team). Fisher (29), Cooper (20) and Grieb (20) each tallied at least 20 points last season. Cooper, who had eight goals and four assists, earned second-team All-Region honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) for the third straight year.

Players To Watch

Mary Kate McPhee (Jr., M) – A second-team All-E8 selection as a freshman in 2023, McPhee will be counted on to lead the Cardinals' offense this season. The junior is the team's only returning player who tallied more than four points in 2024, as she finished with 14 on five goals and four assists. She has 36 total points with 15 goals and six assists through her first two collegiate seasons.

Alison Taplin (So., D) – Taplin, Fisher's only returning player who earned All-E8 honors last season, played and started in all 19 games as a freshman in 2024. The London, United Kingdom, native finished third on the team with two defensive saves.

Numbers To Know

1 – Junior defender Lauren Fracy is the program's first-ever Canadian player. From Victoria, B.C., Fracy played two seasons of collegiate field hockey at Western University in London, Ontario. Additionally, freshman attacker Teresa Smith is Fisher's first player to hail from Michigan. Last year, Taplin became the first international player in program history.

3 – The Cardinals will face some of the top teams in Division III this season, as three of their opponents earned spots in the preseason Penn Monto/NFHCA National Coaches Poll. Those teams include No. 20 Ithaca, No. 21 SUNY Geneseo and No. 25 Rochester.

12 – The Cardinals return just 12 of their 49 goals scored last season. McPhee (5) and senior attacker Morgan Gregory (2) are the team's only returning players who scored more than once in 2024.

20 – The Cardinals own a 20-5 (.800) record in E8 regular-season games under Scorza. They have won at least six conference games in each of those three seasons.
