PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's track and field team is in second place after the first day of the Empire 8 Outdoor Championships, held at Fisher's own Polisseni Track & Field Complex.
The Cardinals have 82 points so far, just five back of the leader, Nazareth University, and well ahead of Utica, who is in third place with 46 points.
On The Track
Fisher had an excellent showing in the 10,000 meter, as senior
Lauren DeMichele won with an Atlantic Region qualifying time of 38:57.59. Right behind her was junior
Riley Jameson, who also notched an Atlantic Region qualifying time with a 39:13.90 mark.
Freshman
Sophia Leach placed second in the 400 meter with a time of 1:00.08.
Sophomore Alison List placed third in the 3000 meter steeplechase, finishing with a time of 12:09.05.
The 4x800 meter relay team of
Allison List, Logan Frederickson,
Maggie Bacon, and
Olivia Grinnell finished third with a time of 9:58.94.
In The Field
Junior
Veronica Duell won the conference title in long jump with a distance of 5.68m/18'7.75''. Senior teammate
Michaela Kurbs placed fourth, with a distance of 5.25m/17'2.75''.
Sophomore
Anna Steed and senior
Makenna King finished second and fourth in the hammer throw with Atlantic Regional qualifying heights of 47.65m/156'4'' and 45.83m/150'4'', respectively.
Senior
Claudia Vogel placed second in the javelin throw with a distance of 33.59m/110'2''.
Sophomore
Emily Frech finished fourth in the pole vault competition, reaching a height of 3.00m/9'10''.
