TOWSON, MD – The St. John Fisher University men and women's track and field teams kicked off the outdoor portion of the season by competing in the Towson Spring Invitational on Friday.
John Ruggio finished in third place in the 400m hurdles, doing so in a time of 57.46. In the 5,000m race, the Cardinals had three runners finish in the top-10.
Jace Stuart came in fourth with a time of 15:58.2, followed by
Riley Nash in sixth place in a mark of 16:04.44.
Reid Hooker took home ninth place in the 5k with a time of 16:37.35.
Joey Curr competed in the discus throw, hitting a distance of 38.84m to finish in ninth place. In the Hammer Throw,
Brandon Kaplan impressed with a toss of 55.41m to come in second place. This mark is a seven meter PR and puts him in seventh place nationally.
Cole Fuller and
Ethan Denzak were top-10 finishers in the javelin throw. Fuller came in sixth with a throw of 38.04m, and
Ethan Denzak tossed for 27.38m to take home ninth place. Kaplan continued his impressive day in the shot put where he came in sixth place with a throw of 12.79m.
Hayden Penna was a star of the competition with a first-place finish in the pole vault. The first-year cleared the bar at 4.32m to secure the win.
Up next for Fisher is the Alumni Invitational hosted by University of Rochester. Competition is slated for Saturday, April 6 and a 10 a.m. start time.
