HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's track and field team finished third at the Empire 8 Indoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday, concluding the two-day event.
The Cardinals finished with 92.2 points in the team competition, behind conference team champion Nazareth (186.2) and runner-up Utica (160.4).
Track Events
Senior
Trenton Wynn had the best finish among Fisher competitors in the 60 meter hurdle, placing fourth with a time of 8.76, just a few thousandths of a second out of the top three.
The 4x400 relay team of Luke Defio,
Anthony DiRubbo,
John Ruggio, and Rob Hartigan placed fourth with a time of 3:35.68.
The Cardinals also earned points in the 3000 meter, where senior
Ethan Billings (8:57.49) and junior Nate Kulp (9:04.43) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
Field Events
Fisher finished one-two-three in the high jump, with senior
Sean Cochrane taking home the conference title with a jump of 2.07m/6'9.5''- a personal indoor best. He was followed by sophomore
Bryant DePaull (1.86m/6'1.25'') and freshman Griffin Killian (1.83m/6'0'') in second and third.
David Argentieri also earned points for Fisher by tying for sixth with a jump of 1.73m/5'8''.
Sophomore
Brandon Kaplan finished second in the weight throw with a mark of 16.29m/53'5.5''. His teammate, senior
Jack Bickford, placed fifth with a distance of 14.85m/48'8.75''.
Freshman
Noah Dueker (12.71m/41'8.5'') and senior
Trenton Wynn (12.67m/41'7'') placed fifth and sixth in the triple jump, respectively.
What Comes Next
Any Cardinals who have met qualifying standards will next compete at the Atlantic Region Championships at Nazareth University on March 1 and 2.
