HOUGHTON, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's track and field team started the Empire 8 Indoor Championships on Friday at Houghton University.
After one day of competition, Fisher is third in the overall team standings with 44 points, behind Utica (70) and Nazareth (62).
Track Events
Senior
Ethan Billings finished second in the 5000 meter with a time of 15:32.69, one of three Cardinals to earn points for the Cardinals. Freshman
Jace Stuart placed fourth with a time of 15:51.05, while senior
Riley Nash placed sixth with a mark of 15:59.77.
Senior
Anthony DiRubbo finished fifth in the mile run with a time of 4:33.68. Dirubbo was also a member of the distance medley team with Nate Kulp, Rob Hartigan, and
Myles Andersen that placed fourth with a time of 11:02.17.
Field Event
Freshman
Hayden Penna won his first Empire 8 title in his first year in college, taking the pole vault title with a height of 4.55m/14'11'. The Hilton native is the third Fisher pole-vaulter to win the conference title.
Also winning a conference title was senior
Matthew Stasiw, who earned his second-straight long jump accolade with a jump of 6.68m/21'11''. Teammate
Sean Cochrane placed fourth, jumping 6.43m/21'1.25''.
Sophomore
Brandon Kaplan finished sixth in the shot put with a distance of 12.81m/41'0.5''.
