ROCHESTER, N.Y. -- The St.John Fisher University women's rowing team competed in the Head of the Genesee regatta to open the fall season on Saturday.

Head coach Jonathan Covney said after the day of races, "the 2x of
Emma Kane and
Sara Costello was the bright spot of the races." The duo finished in 8th place with a time of 23:15.056

Sophie Smith, 2) Samantha Smith, 1) Coral Brown finished in third place with a time of 25:06.536. Covney spoke on the newly formed novice 8: "I was proud of the novice 8, it was their first race and have made big strides the past 2 weeks."

Demeter Burns finished in 7th place in their event with a time of 23:31.684.
"The varsity is gaining their identity as a squad and was able to gain valuable race experience against a lot of the teams in our conference, including the University of Rochester, RIT, St. Lawrence, Union, William Smith and Ithaca," Covney said. "We have 2 more weeks to gain speed as we end our fall season in Philadelphia. I'm hoping we take what we learned in our races today and work hard in practice."
The Cardinals will head to Philadelphia for their last races of the fall season on Oct. 26 at the Head of the Schuylkill.
