SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher women's rowing team competed in the New York State Collegiate Championships over the weekend on Fish Creek.
The regatta featured some Division I teams and five of the top 15 teams in Division III, including No. 1 Bates College.
Fisher's Varsity Four, which placed 12th overall, raced against Syracuse, Albany, Vassar and RPI in its heat, placing fourth with a time of 9:40.5. In the second level final, the Cardinals placed sixth behind Canisius, Vassar, Nazareth and RIT at 9:11.1, an improvement of about 30 seconds from the first race.
Syracuse placed first overall in the Varsity Four, while Albany came in third.
The Cardinals' Varsity Four included Samantha Macko (cox), Grace Corbin (stroke seat), Rhea Malmquist (3), Samantha Ross (2) and Anna Foe (1).
Fisher's Novice 4 placed fifth in its race with a time of 10:09.67. That group included Anna Winters (cox), Tenley Rodogna (stroke seat), Coral Brown (3), Lizzie Shaffer (2) and Gabrielle Bolling (1).
"We were able to race a handful of D1 schools as well as other schools from our conference," head coach Jonathan Covney said. "It shows we can race with them, but also as we get more experience from across our boats, we can improve."
