MARIETTA, Ohio. – The St. John Fisher women's rowing team raced against Marietta College this weekend on the Muskingum River.
The Cardinals' A team placed second with a time of 6:07.69, while their B squad placed third with a time of 6:39.39. Marietta won the race, finishing in 5:53.34.
"The river conditions were very fast, and all boats handled them well," coach Jonathan Covney. "Our A entry was even with Marietta until the last 500m of the race when they pulled away little by little and sprinted to the final margin.
Our crews raced well against a very strong Marietta crew that had a little more experience than us and were coming off being named their conference's boat of the week."
Fisher's V4A team included Samantha Macko (coxswain), Grabe Corbin (stroke seat), Rhea Malmquist (3 seat), Samantha Ross (2 seat) and Anna Foe (bow seat).
The V4B team included Anna Winters (coxswain), Tenley Rodogna (stroke seat), Coral Brown (3 seat), Lizzie Shaffer (2 seat) and Megan McMichael (bow seat).
"What we learned about ourselves in this race will hopefully prove to be valuable this upcoming week at the New York State Rowing Championships, where we will see strong competition," Covney said.
