PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team continues its streak of road games this week, traveling to Alfred State on Tuesday, Sept. 19, before heading to the University of Rochester on Thursday, Sept. 21.
The Alfred State game is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., while the U of R contest will kick off at 7:00 p.m.
The Cardinals enter the week 2-2-2. Last week, they defeated RIT, 2-1, for the program's first win against the Tigers since 2009 before tying Alfred, 1-1, in the Cardinals' Empire 8 opener.
The Empire Strikes Soon: Barring a trip to the NCAA Tournament, the two games this week are the last non-conference matches of the season for the Cardinals. They've gone 2-2-1 against non-conference foes this year.
Feel The Byrne(s): Sophomore
Avery Byrnes continues to be one of the Empire 8's top goalkeepers, sitting second in the conference in goals-against average (1.00) and save percentage (.850).
Historically Speaking: This will be St. John Fisher's first match with Alfred State since at least 2005, but there's a far longer history with the University of Rochester. Although the Cardinals have historically struggled against the Yellowjackets (1-15-1 since 2005), Fisher has had much more success the last few years, tying U of R last year and defeating them in 2021.
Player To Watch: Junior midfielder
Siobhan McMakin is tied for the team lead in goals, with two. Both goals came with excellent timing: they were game-winners, making her the only player in Empire 8 with two game-winning goals this season thus far.
