PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's soccer team continues a string of five straight road matches this week when they head to the campuses of RIT and Alfred University on Wednesday and Saturday, respectively.

The Cardinals, currently 1-2-1 on the season, went 0-2 last week, dropping a close 1-0 contest to Brockport at home and then falling to Geneseo, 2-0.

Aggressive Attack: Junior Emma Spelman has been peppering the goal this season, leading the team and the Empire 8 with 13 shots, including seven on goal. The Hilton graduate has yet to find the net this season, but it is likely just a matter of time before she scores the seventh goal of her Fisher career.

Know Your History: Fisher last played RIT on Oct. 4, 2022, falling at home against the Tigers, 4-0. The Cardinals are 1-13-1 against RIT since 2005.

The Cardinals enter their conference play-opening game at the Alfred Saxons on a three-game undefeated streak. They have gone 1-0-2 in their last three meetings, including a 1-0 win in the 2021 Empire 8 semifinals. St. John Fisher and Alfred had a scoreless draw last season. The Cardinals are 14-3-3 against the Saxons since 2005, their best record against an opponent they've played at least 10 times since then.

Player To Watch: Sophomore goalkeeper Avery Byrnes has played every minute of every match so far this season, and has been a steady last line of defense for the Cardinals. She won the Empire 8 Defensive Player of the Week nod to start the season and then made 11 saves last week. The Clay native currently leads the Empire 8 in save percentage (.857) and has the second-lowest Goals Against Average in the league (1.000).
