BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's tennis team began their season on the road against SUNY Brockport. The Cardinals were an impressive 6-0 in their singles matches to defeat the Golden Eagles, 7-2.
Fisher dropped two of their three doubles matches, with the duo of
Madison Galvin and
Lilly Renzi earning the win, 8-2. In the singles matches, all six Cardinals were able to claim victories.
Kathryn Strait dropped the opening set of her match but came back to win the second, 7-6, thanks to a 7-4 tiebreaker. The third set was high scoring, by Strait came out on top by a score of 14-12 to secure the victory. First year,
Maddy Langley, also played a tough match, taking the first set 7-6 and the third, 10-4.
Lilly Renzi,
Olivia Rizzo,
Abby Garvey and
Lilly Miller all took their matches in strait sets. Renzi won 6-1, 6-2, followed by Rizzo, 6-4, 6-1. Garvey dropped just one set in her match, winning 6-1, 6-0 and Miller impressed with a 6-1, 6-3 straight set win.
The Cardinals compete in a week when they head to SUNY Geneseo on Friday, Sept. 8. The match is set to begin at 4 p.m.
