Weekly Preview: Baseball Aim to End Regular Season on Top

PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University baseball team will take on Elmira College in the final game of a three-game series, and Utica University in a three-game series, this week. On Thursday, May 4, the Cardinals will travel to Horseheads, NY, as they face Elmira College in game three of a three-game series.
 
The first pitch is set for 3:30 p.m., with Fisher already winning the first two games of the series. Next, they face Utica University in a three-game home series. Games one and two will be a doubleheader at Dugan Yard on May 6. Game one is set for 1:00 p.m., followed by game two at 4:00 p.m. The final game of the series, and of the regular season, will be on Sunday, May 7. The Senior Day game is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
 
Fisher enters the week with a record of 23-12 overall, winning their previous nine games, and remains undefeated in the Empire 8 with a conference record of 14-0. With this record, the Cardinals currently sit first in the conference. Elmira College enters the week with an overall record of 7-22, losing their previous two games, and holds a conference record of 3-11, putting them sixth in the conference. The Pioneers enter the week with an overall record of 23-10, winning their previous game, and hold a conference record of 13-2. With their record, Utica University currently sits second in the Empire 8.
 
Dominant Offense: Entering the week, Fisher currently has the most home runs in the conference, with 54. The Cardinals currently have 44 more than Utica University, the team in second. Driving in the most runs in the conference, Fisher leads in RBI with 286, and runs, with 313 on the season, with the Pioneers sitting in second for both.
 
Last time they faced off: On Saturday, the Cardinals and Soaring Eagles played in a doubleheader. In game one, Fisher narrowly won, 2-1. Game two saw the Cardinals comeback in the ninth inning, pushing the game to ten innings and winning 7-6. In the two team's history, Fisher holds the better record, winning 29 games, losing two, and winning the previous four.
 
The last time the Cardinals and Pioneers faced was on May 13, 2022, with Fisher winning 9-2. In the two team's history, the Cardinals hold the better record, winning 52 games, losing five, and winning the previous four.
 
Player to Watch: This week's player to watch is Noah Campanelli. For the second week in a row, Campanelli has been named the Empire 8 Baseball Player of the Week. Campanelli batted .583 in three wins for St. John Fisher, with seven hits in 12 at-bats to go along with four runs scored, five stolen bases, two doubles and two RBI. Campanelli is riding a 15-game hitting streak, batting .600 (45-for-75) over that span with 28 runs scored, 19 extra-base hits and 21 RBI to go along with 19 stolen bases. He has raised his batting average from .358 to .487 over that span.
 
Fisher enters the week with a nine-game winning streak and looks to build on that impressive run as they aim to claim the number one seed in the Empire 8.
