ELIZABETHTOWN, PA – The St. John Fisher University baseball team played two of three games, today, against Elizabethtown College. In the first game, the Cardinals fell 4-0. The second game had scoring from both teams, with Fisher losing 8-5, moving their record to 3-9 on the year.
Game One: Loss, 0-4
The Cardinal's first game of the day started with
Noah Campanelli singling to right center, however, was left on base. In the top of the second,
James Murphy tripled to center field, but was once again stranded in scoring position. In the bottom of the third, Elizabethtown scored the first three runs of the game, collecting their fourth run in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the seventh, both Murphy and
Dominic Guccia hit singles, but the Cardinals were unable to mount the comeback and fell by a final score of 4-0.
Connor McHugh pitched 5.0 innings, striking out two batters.
Ethan Fulton came in for 2.0 innings to strike out two batters.
Hunter Walsh closed the game, striking out one batter and giving up no hits.
Game Two: Loss, 8-5
The second game of the day started slow, with Elizabethtown scoring one run in the bottom of the second and another run in the bottom of the third. In the top of the fourth inning, Murphy homered to left center, bringing in
Ben Lavery, and tying the game 2-2. In the top of the fifth, Murphy flied out to infield, collecting an RBI as
Andrew Roman scored. The Blue Jays homered in the bottom of the fifth, bringing the score to 3-4, in the Blue Jay's favor. The top of the seventh inning saw Murphy hit another homer to left center, bringing in Lavery to tie the game at 5-5. Elizabethtown collected three more runs, with the game ending in the Cardinal's defeat, 8-5.
Benjamin Huckans pitched 2.0 innings, striking out three batters. In total, the Cardinals used seven pitchers, striking out six, allowing 11 hits, and walking six.
Fisher will return back to Elizabethtown on Sunday, Mar. 19., for the third game in the series, beginning at 12 p.m.
