Women’s Track & Field Compete in Day One of Empire 8 Championship

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher Women's Track and Field team traveled to Nazareth College to compete in day one of the Empire 8 Championship. The meet took place on Friday and  after day one, the Cardinals sit in 2nd overall.
 
On the Track
The meet began with Olivia Grinnell placing 3rd in the mile, running 5:21.83. In a close finish, Laura Witt was a second behind, running 5:22.55 to place 6th. Sabrina Antonini ran 5:43.72 to place 10th overall.

In the opening round of the 60m hurdles, Ciarra Franz took 1st with a time of 9.08, qualifying for the finals.
 
The opening round of the 60m saw the Cardinals succeed, with five advancing to the finals. Franz continued her strong day taking 2nd with a time of 7.86. In 3rd, Zhane Lettsome ran 7.91. Samantha Shea took 4th, running 7.95. Finishing 6th, Michaela Kurbs ran 8.03. Closing it out for the Cardinals was Isabelle Rowley, running 8.07 to place 7th.
 
The Cardinals continued their success into the 400m, with Shea placing 1st, running 57.87. Grace Wright secured a 5th place finish, running 1:00.88. Emma Wright finished in 7th, running 1:03.07. Not far behind, Brenda Le took 8th with a time of 1:03.25.
 
The 5000m saw Lauren DeMichele take 1st place, finishing in 18:35.12. Placing in 5th, Brigid McGee ran 19:02.53. Riley Corey was not far behind, running 19:19.55 to take 7th overall
 
Ending the night, the team of Riley Jameson, Le, Grinnell, and Caitlin Voloshen ran the distance medley relay. The team took 2nd, finishing with a time of 13:09.32.
 
On the Field
On the field, Makenna King took 2nd in the shot put, throwing 11.58m. In a close 3rd, Erin McGuinness threw 11.48m. Taking 4th for the Cardinals, Lyndsay O'Brien threw 11.34m.
 
In the long jump, Veronica Duell took 2nd, jumping 5.65m. In a close 2nd, Kurbs jumped 5.64m.
 
Ending the night, Emily Frech took 5th in the pole vault, with a mark of 2.75m. Hayly Fredrickson took 6th with a mark of 2.60m.
 
Competing in the Pentathlon
In the pentathlon, Logan Fredrickson took 7th overall. Her best performance came in the 800m, where she ran 2:39.48 to take 4th.
 
Next up for the Cardinals is Day Two of the Empire 8 Championship. The Championship will be hosted by Nazareth College and will take place on Saturday, Feb 25.
