Women’s Track and Field Impress At Nazareth University

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's and women's track and field teams went down the road to Nazareth University to compete in the Nazareth Alumni Opener on Friday.
 
Track
The event kicked off with Ciarra Franz competing in the 60m hurdles and hitting a time of 8.82, which slots her in at no. 2 in the NCAA DIII. Grace Wright took home fifth place in the 400m race with a time of 1:01.39. In the 60m dash, Ashley Holt used a time of 8.70 to cross the finish line in sixth place. In the mile, Caitlin Voloshen took a hold of first place with a time of 5:22.86. Teammates Olivia Grinnell (5:36.48), Allison List (5:42.27) and Sabrina Antonin (5:44.38) each came in sixth, seventh and eighth respectively.
 
Sophia Leach competed in the 500m race and took fifth with a time of 1:25.94. In the 300m race, Grace Dolan came in sixth place with a time of 44.68. In the 3000m race, Riley Jameson finished in seventh place with a time of 10:52.38, and Brigid McGee followed with a ninth place finish with a time of 10:58.41.
 
Field
In the field, Makenna King kicked it off with a first place finish in the shot put. Her fifth toss went for a distance of 13.38m, which will slot her no. 7 in NCAA DIII. King also added an eighth place finish in the weight throw, tallying a mark of 13.98 in her third attempt. Erin McGuinness had her first throw go 11.47 and it was enough to claim seventh place.
 
Michaela Kurbs earned the win in the long jump, recording a distance of 5.62 that will have her at no. 2 in NCAA DIII. Ciarra Franz had a first jump mark of 5.43 that gave her a fourth place finish, and Veronica Duell claimed eighth place with a leap of 5.31. Angela Carlson was able to clear the bar at 1.47m in the high jump to claim fourth place, while teammate Claudia Vogel finished in a tie for fifth with a height of 1.42.
 
The Cardinals head into a long break and will not be in action until the new year. They Will head back to Houghton University for the Highlander Invitational on Saturday, January 20 with an anticipated start time of 10 a.m.
