PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's cross country team aims to win its fourth straight Empire 8 title this weekend at the Empire 8 Championship on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The meet, sponsored by Nazareth University, is scheduled for noon at Parkview Fairways in Victor.
The Cardinals won their third consecutive Empire 8 title last season, as three runners finished in the top 10, and the team beat out Nazareth by 11 points for the top spot. The squad has had continued success this year, finishing in the top 10 three times.
Senior
Lauren DeMichele has been among the leaders for Fisher, notching a top 10 finish at the Hamilton Short Course in September and setting a personal best in the 6K SUNY Geneseo Mike Woods Invitational earlier in October. Fellow senior
Brigid McGee has also impressed this season and similarly enters the meet after setting a personal best in Geneseo.
Among underclassmen, sophomore
Caitlin Voloshen enters with a top-15 finish earlier in the season and a personal best in Geneseo.
The Cardinals will look to make it four straight E8 titles on Saturday. The Cardinals return four of its the top five finishers from last season, including a pair of All-Empire 8 first team selections, one second team and one third team honoree. Senior
Lauren DeMichele, a three-time All-E8 first team selection, will be expected to lead the Cardinals and will look for her first E8 Individual title in 2023. Fellow first team member, senior

Brigid McGee and sophomore third team member
Olivia Grinnell are key returners who will look to help the Cardinals attempt to win their fourth straight E8 crown. DeMichele and Witt were also All-Region selections in 2022.

Lauren Dunn will also compete for points this weekend. The Cardinals enter the 2023 E8 Championship ranked tenth in the USTFCCCA Niagara Region rankings.
