PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team completes its regular season with a Growney Stadium showdown against rival Nazareth University on Wednesday at 7:00 P.M.
 
The Cardinals, 5-4-5 overall and 4-0-3 in the Empire 8 conference, can win the top seed in the Empire 8 tournament. Last week, they went 1-0, defeating Sage College 1-0, thanks to a penalty kick goal by fifth-year student Tim Brown. 
 
Playoff Scenarios: Fisher is currently tied with Elmira for second in the Empire 8 but is, in practice, sitting in third due to tiebreakers. 
 
The Cardinals have already clinched a spot in the conference tournament. However, they can move to the top spot if they defeat Nazareth and Elmira either loses or ties to Alfred. They could also take the number one spot if they win on Wednesday and Elmira wins, but only if Fisher defeats Nazareth by more than Elmira beats Alfred by or if the goal differential remains the same.
 
Battle of the Soccer Beaks: The Cardinals are 8-9-4 against Nazareth since 2005, including a 1-1 tie with the Golden Flyers last season. The two teams haven't had a game end with a win/loss result in regulation since 2020, when the Cardinals won 1-0 in the Empire 8 semifinals. 
 
Road Tour '23: St. John Fisher has completed its road schedule for the 2023 regular season. They went 2-2-4 away from Growney Stadium this season, an improvement on 2022's 2-5-2 mark. 
 
Player To Watch:  Reese Powers has been among the top underclassmen for the Cardinals this year. The sophomore from Nunda leads the team with three assists, and his three points are fourth on the team in the category.
