Grover Scores Twice To Lead Men's Soccer Past Houghton

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – Midfielder Adam Grover scored twice, with his second goal breaking a tie in the final minute of play, to lead the St. John Fisher men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Houghton on Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 6-4-2 overall and 5-2-1 in Empire 8 Conference play, while Houghton dropped to 6-4-4 and 3-3-2, respectively.

How It Happened

Fisher entered halftime tied at a goal apiece with Houghton and held a 6–3 advantage in shots. Adam Grover led the attack, scoring Fisher's first goal off an assist from Jake Endich in the 24th minute. The tally came about seven minutes after Houghton's Elijah Bailey opened the scoring on a penalty kick.

Despite controlling the shot totals, the Cardinals put just two of them on goal and did not log a corner kick in the first half. Goalkeeper Parker Stusek recorded one save to keep the game even heading into the second half.

The Cardinals faced increased offensive pressure in the second half, as Houghton outshot Fisher 5–2 after the break. With 3:30 remaining, Houghton generated a promising chance off a header that Stusek remarkably saved.

His second save of the evening was enough to keep the Cardinals even at one, allowing Adam Grover to come up with the game-winning goal in the 90th minute.

Despite being outshot in the second half, Fisher finished the game even with Houghton at eight shots apiece, capitalizing on its final opportunity to earn the win.
