PITTSFORD, N.Y. — On a sunny Senior Day at Growney Stadium, the St. John Fisher men's soccer team took a 2-0 lead into halftime against Russell Sage behind a pair of goals from Jack Tamburino and did not look back from there. Adam Grover tacked on his eighth goal of the season in the second half, putting an exclamation point on a 3-0 victory for the Cardinals, who improved to 7-4-2 overall and 6-2-1 in Empire 8 Conference play.
How it Happened
Tamburino led the scoring with a penalty kick in the 11th minute before adding his second goal, which landed right in his lap off a throw-in in the 35th minute. The Cardinals controlled the attack by outshooting the Gators 4-2 and maintaining a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks. Fisher's defense kept Russell Sage without a shot on goal through the opening 45 minutes.
In the second half, Russell Sage was granted a penalty shot, and goalkeeper Parker Stusek saved two consecutive shots on goal, beginning with a diving save on the initial kick, followed by another seconds later. Shortly after, the Cardinals extended their lead with Grover's goal in the 60th minute.
Despite being outshot 13-6 in the second half and 15-10 overall, Fisher held Sage scoreless. Stusek finished with two saves before senior Andrew Barrows entered for the final nine minutes to complete the combined shutout.
