Grover Scores Again But Men’s Soccer Settles For Draw With Brockport

PITTSFORD, N.Y. — Adam Grover tallied his Empire 8 Conference-leading ninth goal of the season as the St. John Fisher men's soccer team played Brockport to a 2-2 draw on a chilly Wednesday evening at Growney Stadium.

With the result, the Cardinals moved to 7-4-3 overall and 6-2-2 in Empire 8 play and remained in contention for a top-four seed for the conference's postseason tournament. Brockport stands at 6-6-3 overall and 5-3-2 in E8 play.

How It Happened

After falling behind 1-0 in the 18th minute, the Cardinals responded just 78 seconds later. Grover found the back of the net in the 19th minute off an assist from Jeremiah Strader, leveling the score at one apiece.

Fisher recorded five shots in the first half, including two on goal. Goalkeeper Parker Stusek made two saves to keep the contest even heading into the break.

Brockport regained the lead in the 57th minute, but the Cardinals once again found an answer. At the 59:24 mark, Fisher benefited from a Brockport own goal to even the score at 2-2.

The Cardinals faced increased offensive pressure throughout the second half, recording five saves while adding three shots, all on goal. None of them found the back of the net as the Cardinals logged their third tie of the season at 2-2.

Game Notes

  • Grover's goal was his ninth of the season and 12th of his collegiate career. His nine goals are the most by a Cardinal in a season since Riley Rease scored 10 in 2021.

  • Grover has scored in four consecutive contests and eight of Fisher's last nine games.

  • Stusek finished with seven saves, including five in the second half.

  • Jack Tamburino led Fisher with four shots, including two on goal.

  • The Cardinals extended their unbeaten streak to three games

  • Fisher has clinched a berth in the eight-team Empire 8 Championship Tournament and enters its regular-season finale with 20 conference points.

  • The Cardinals remain in contention for a top-four seed, which would secure a home quarterfinal match.
