JAMESTOWN, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team traveled to Jamestown Community College to compete in the Jamestown Open. The competition saw teams like Alfred, Ithaca and Cortland just to name a few, and the Cardinals were in the middle of all the action.
 
Derek Bernardino was strong in the 133 weight class. After receiving a bye in the consolation round, he won back-to-back matched. The first was a pin fall over a teammate at 3:30. He followed that was a 11-5 decision to head into the semi-final match, where he lost.
 
Luke Lupisella had a bye to start the competition and then won by injury default to advance to the quarterfinal bout. He was able to defeat his opponent by a 17-7 major decision. He later fell in the semi-final bout. Trevor Sheehan won three straight matches in the 157 weight class, on his way to a semi-final bout. He start with two pin fall victories at 4:18 and 3:29 before earning a 6-3 decision. Sheeshan lost in the semi-final match by pin-fall.
 
Otto Davidson began the day with a 5-3 victory by decision before falling in the quarterfinal bout. He continued in the consolation rounds and won three straight matches. The first was a pin fall at 0:56, then he earned a 6-5 decision before a forfeit helped him advance to the third place match. He dropped the match and settled for fourth place in the 165 weight class.
 
Up next for Fisher is a journey to Baldwin Wallace, where they will compete in the John Summa Invite on Saturday, Feb.4.
