PITTSFORD, N.Y. – St. John Fisher 141-pounder Trevor Bishop has been named Empire 8 Co-Rookie Wrestler of the Year along with SUNY Brockport's Vandavian Way (157/165).
Bishop, from Brunswick, New York, went 18-11 this season, winning seven matches by fall and three by technical fall. He placed fifth at the NCAA Division III Region II Championships earlier this month and earned E8 Wrestler of the Week honors on Feb. 3.
Bishop was also recently named a National Wrestling Coaches Association Scholar All-American.
Junior Derek Bernardino also garnered Empire 8 recognition as St. John Fisher's Sportsman of the Year nominee.
One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024-25 Men's Wrestling Sportsman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.
