How He Got Here
Junior 157-pounder Paul Lichter will represent St. John Fisher in the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships March 13-14 at the Aliant Energy Power House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
With a second-place finish in his weight class in the NCAA DIII Mideast Regional, Lichter joined Alex Samson as the second Fisher wrestler to qualify for nationals since the recommencement of the program in 2022-23. Samson qualified for the 2024 national tournament and took seventh place at 141 pounds to become the program’s second-ever All-American.
Lichter owns a team-best 22-4 overall record with seven wins by decision, six by technical fall, five by major decision, three by fall and one by forfeit. He posted a 4-1 record at regionals with three bonus-point wins, including two major decisions and a technical fall. Lichter punched his ticket to nationals with a 4-1 victory over SUNY Cortland's Colton Havens in the semifinal round.
Lichter has just one loss since the RIT Tournament in December, and that came to Ryan Smith of Stevens in the 157-pound championship bout at regionals.
