BROCKPORT, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher Women's Track and Field team traveled to Brockport, N.Y. to compete in the Winter Welcome Back to Brockport Meet. The meet took place on Saturday and was hosted by SUNY Brockport.
Coach Henchen had this to say, "We challenged both teams to perform outside of their comfort zones today – to take a bit of a risk and to push the performance envelope a bit. Both teams responded very well". The women had 27 new or improved E8 qualifying marks.
In the 5000m run,
Laura Witt ran 19:49.54 to finish 6
th. Close behind, were 8
th place
Lauren Almy, running 20:13.81,a personal best, and 9
th place
Brigid McGee, running 20:14.79. All three ran qualifying times for the Empire 8 Championships.
The mile race saw
Lauren DeMichele take 8
th place with a time of 5:30.06, a qualifying Empire 8 Championships time.
Riley Corey ran 5:35.44 and
Riley Jameson ran 5:53.50 to both qualify, as well. DeMichele, Jameson, and
Taylor Hoffman all had PRs.
In the 60m hurdles,
Hayly Fredrickson ran 10.64 to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
Lily Rexford also qualified, running 10.69. Other qualifiers were
Lillian Farrand, 11.16, and
Logan Fredrickson, 11.28.
The 400m saw
Brenda Le place 10
th with a time of 1:04.70.
Lilyan Humphrey was not too far behind, running 1:05.38. Both runners had Empire 8 Championship qualifying times.
Full of strong performances, was the 60m.
Samantha Shea claimed first with a time of 7.90 that qualifies her for both the Empire 8 Championship and the Regional Championship. Shea's time also tied the women's 60 meter dash record with a personal best performance.
Ciarra Franz took second, running 7.98, a qualifying time for both championships.
Zhane Lettsome took 6
th, running 8.18 and qualifying for the conference championship. Other Empire 8 Championship qualifiers were;
Isabelle Rowley,
Lilyan Humphrey,
Allison Lennebacker, and Grace Wright.
Emma Wright had a strong 800m performance, finishing 8
th with a time of 2:29.02, a college PR, and a qualifying time for the conference championship.
Shea's success continued in the 200m, running 26.43 to take 6
th place. This time would qualify her for both the conference and regional championships. G. Wright also had success, taking 10
th with a time of 27.38, qualifying for the Empire 8 Championships. Other qualifiers included; Lettsome, Rowley, and Le.
In the 3000m,
Caitlin Voloshen ran 11:28.93 to take 8
th place. Less than a second behind was
Sophia Prouty, taking 9
th with a time of 11:29.80. Both runners ran conference championship qualifying times. Olivia Grinnell and
Sabrina Antonini both also ran qualifying times. Voloshen, Prouty, and Antonioni all had PRs.
In the high jump,
Angela Carlson jumped 1.39m to qualify for the Empire 8 Championships.
Fredrickson went on to take 9
th in the pole vault with a mark of 2.60m, tying her PR, a conference championship qualifying time.
Emily Frech also qualified, with a mark of 2.45m.
The weight throw saw
Makenna King throw 12.95m to take 9
th place.
King continued her success into the shot put, throwing 11.88m to take 3
rd place and go second on the Empire 8 leaderboard. King's mark also qualified for the Atlantic Region Championship.
Jazelle McIntyre threw 9.17m, qualifying for the Empire 8 Championships.
Next up for the Cardinals is the Nazareth College Conference Challenge hosted by Nazareth College on Saturday, Jan. 28.
