PITTSFORD, NY – The St. John Fisher University women's field hockey team will compete in three games this week, including two Empire 8 matchups. They will take on rival Nazareth College on Wednesday night to start the week before facing Medaille College on Friday. The Cardinals will then head to Vermont for a game against Middlebury College.
The Cardinals will look to build off a week where they went 1-1. The Golden Eagles sit at 1-7 on the season, and are 1-1 against Empire 8 challengers. Medaille sits at 2-5 overall and is 2-1 in the conference. Middlebury has started the season 7-0.
LAST TIME THEY MET: Last year, the Cardinals topped Nazareth 6-0, behind support from sophomore
Molly Fisher who scored three goals and added an assist. This season, Fisher has three goals and one assist over seven games played. When Fisher met Middlebury last season, Middlebury won 6-0. In that game, goalie
Sophia Trozzi made a career-high 16 saves. The Cardinals will need to put forward strong defense to capture a win against the Panthers.
LET'S RUN IT BACK: Fisher cruised to their first win of the season last Wednesday, topping Keuka 8-1. The contest saw goals scored by six different Cardinals.
Emma Cooper scored a goal in the second minute of the game, one of two goals scored by Cooper.
Audrey Grieb, Fisher,
Morgan Flatley, and
Sam Choate each would score a goal, while Cooper and
Anna Melfi each scored a pair.
The Cardinals totaled 26 shots including 16 on goal.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Our player to watch this week is
Audrey Grieb, who had a big week for the Cardinals. Over the Cardinals last two games, Grieb had one goal, two points, and six shots, four of which were on goal.
