PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University men's soccer team look to get back to the Empire-8 Championship game after falling to eventual 2021 champions, Nazareth College, in penalty kicks in the semi-finals. The Cardinals were winners in 2020 and are hungry for another trophy.
Key Players Return
The Cardinals will have a level of continuity this season with 25 players returning, 11 of which were starters. In addition, six all-conference players return in Riley Reese,
Justin Bonetto,
Jadon Schlierf,
Jackson Bishop,
Matt Gentile and
Ryan Brown. Bonneto was named one of the Empire 8 players to watch in their
2022 Season Preview after a strong 2021 campaign where he was named Spring Player of the Year and is a two time All-E8 first team selection.
Battle in Buffalo
Fisher hits the road for their season opener, traveling to Buffalo State to battle the Bengals on Thursday, September 1 at 6 p.m. In their 2021 match, the Bengals converted a penalty kick in the 78th minute, which was the only scoring in the game. Fisher will look to start the season with a victory before heading to SUNY Geneseo over the weekend.
