ROCHESTER, NY – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team traveled to RIT on Saturday to compete in the RIT Invitational.
Dominick Diedrick had the best placement for the Cardinals, scoring 10.0 points with a sixth place finish in the 125-pound bracket. After moving on from the first round after a medical forfeit, Diedrick won his second round bout with a 13-1 major decision. In the quarterfinals, he used a 6-4 sudden victory to advance before falling in the semi-finals.
In the 133-pound consolation bracket,
Mason Welch and
Derek Bernardino advanced to the third round, scoring 3.5 points and 4.0 for the Cardinals, respectively.
Matthew Ash advanced to the quarterfinal of the 141-pound bracket, however, lost and made it to the fourth round of the consolation bracket where he scored 5.0 team points.
In the 149-pound consolation bracket,
Luke Lupisella advanced to the sixth round where he scored 3.0 team points.
Joshua Maslyn scored 4.0 team points after advancing to the third round of the main bracket after a pin fall victory in round two.
Zachary Ash advanced the furthest in the bracket, making it to the seventh round of the bracket and scoring 9.5 team points.
Mason Wersinger and
Torin Bishop scored 5.0 and 4.0 team points in the same bracket.
The 157-pound consolation bracket saw
Logan Palmeri advance to the second round where he scored 3.0 team points.
Ryleigh Duryee performed similarly, making it to the second round of the 165-pound consolation bracket and scoring 1.0 team point.
Jack Lestrange performed well in the 174-pound consolation bracket, scoring 3.5 points in the fourth round. In the 285-pound consolation bracket,
Luke Cawley advanced to the second round and earned 1.0 team point.
Up next for the Cardinals is at home on Saturday, January 7
th vs. Elmira College. Competition will start at 2 p.m.
