COLLEGEVILLE, PA – The St. John Fisher University wrestling team were on the road on Saturday, traveling to Ursinus College for the Racich Rumble. The Cardinals had 23 student-athletes compete in the second competition of the year.
Mason Wersinger had an impressive day, getting to the semi-finals of the 149-weight class bracket. In the round of 32 he recorded a 7-6 decision before earning a 10-4 decision over the no. 2 seed wrestler. In the quarter-final Wersinger won by a 5-3 decision before falling in the semi-finals by way of a 10-7 decision. Teammate,
Joshua Maslyn, was also in the 149-weight class and he advanced to the quarterfinals. Maslyn started the day with a 21-3 technical fall and then used a 9-5 decision to get to the quarterfinals where he fell to the no. 3 seed by way of a 14-8 decision.
In the 133-weight class,
Derek Bernardino advanced to the quarterfinals were he lost to the no. 2 seed. He began with a pin fall victory at 6:17. In the round of 16, Bernardino used a 13-6 decision to get to the next round.
Zachary Ash (141),
Zenmatsu Myles (133) and
Otto Davidson all advanced to the Round of 16.
Up next for the Cardinals is the Empire Collegiate Wrestling Conference Tournament, hosted by Oswego State on Saturday, Nov. 19.
