PITTSFORD, N.Y. – The St. John Fisher University women's tennis team wrapped up the regular season over the weekend with a home battle against Houghton College and a road match against Medaille University. The Cardinals dropped the home match 5-4 to the Highlanders on Saturday, before defeating the Mavericks 8-1 on Sunday.
Fisher 4 – Houghton 5
The duo of
Lilly Renzi and
Madison Galvin won Fishers only doubles match, 8-2. The Cardinals dropped the first two singles matches, but then they began to rally off some victories. Renzi defeated her opponent by winning the first and third set 6-4. Galvin was then victorious in the first set 6-2 and then won a tiebreaker, 7-5 to claim the 7-6 win.
Grace Fisher continued the run of wins by winning in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. However, the Cardinals were unable to complete the comeback and fell 5-4.
Fisher 8 – Medaille 1
Fisher was dominant in their season finale against the Mavericks, winning 8-1, including all six singles matches.
Kathryn Strait and Abigail Garvey were the first duo to win their doubles match and they did so 8-3.
Riley Ellis and Elaine Kelly then won their doubles, 8-1. Strait, Garvey, Renzi, Galvin, Ellis and
Natalie Eisenson all won their singles match, with Galvin being the only player that went three sets.
The Cardinals finish the regular season 6-4 on the year and 3-4 against Empire 8 opponents. They were 5-1 at home, and 1-3 on the road.
